Why the Slave Trade in the West Stopped

In this period of insanity it is worth remembering that the Royal Navy declared war on slave trading in 1811 and by 1853 had eliminated the slave route to Brazil. The last slave market in the Americas was at Havana and it closed in 1869. Then the focus turned to Africa with some of the initial colonies established to support the ships.
It is worth noting that slave ships needed to be boarded with subsequent hand to hand fighting with desperate men with bloody results.
I wonder if lives lost freeing black slaves matter?
