Attorney General Bill Barr argues behind closed White House doors that 2020 is a bad time to repeal Obamacare, according to CNN, as the Trump administration finalizes its Supreme Court argument. In the midst of a pandemic, and a presidential election year, does it make sense to, instead, attempt a partial repeal of ACA? Should conservatives even want to use SCOTUS to do what Republicans in Congress have failed to do legislatively?

Ok. The reason Republicans haven’t come up with a plan is because they know that Americans don’t want to take back responsibility for health care. Probably 90% of them want it for “free”.
The problem being, of course, that there is no such thing as “free.” It amounts to paying in installments via your taxes whether or not you use it.
But since roughly only 50% of us pay taxes, it really is free for a large group. Argh!
I too am still waiting for actual health insurance, not a pre-paid plan.
Concierge practices aren’t really cash-based; instead they make the doctor’s practice into insurance. You pay the doctor (say) $100/month and they make themselves available for whatever you need. If you only go to the doctor once a year for a checkup, that’s a $1200 checkup.
Real cash-based medical practices simply do not accept insurance. I went to one such doctor for a while (until he retired) and he charge $35 a visit. He had no nurse, not even a receptionist. He answered the phone himself. Walk-ins welcome. Now, that’s probably taking things just a bit far, but I know of another practice near where I live now that is similarly structured. That one’s a young doctor. He does have staff, and only charges $25 per visit. No insurance accepted. (To be fair, the practice is specifically aimed at lower-income people without insurance, but next time I need an antibiotic, that’s where I’ll go.)
I think a lot of doctors feel trapped by the current system and are afraid to step out of it. Can’t say I blame them.
On the other hand, with so many people out of work, now may be the time to disconnect healthcare provision and payment from employment–and NOT by implementing a government supplied plan–because the pandemic has exposed the problem with universal answers to diverse situations. The young & healthy still don’t need all the health insurance they’ve been paying for. And no one has been refused treatment for conditions for lack of payment–rather from fear of lack of supply.
And we have yet to see the fallout from the scared and insured with hidden issues gone untreated.
Also – at some point, Bill mentioned other countries, And I’m not sure if he said Explicitly Sweeden, but that was the intention, cause that’s the reference we always get for a “better country”
Well – I just saw this video, that I think is a Mast
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kz5BhX5_CXo
A Sweedish Doctor is Describing how they (medical teams in Sweeden) were instructed not to treat (with oxygen) people above 80, or people above 65 with other illnesses
And, of course, how everyone is being silenced
First of all – the gall, and immodesty that Obama had – to call it “Obama care”
If he didn’t take the money out of his (own personal) pocket, then he shouldn’t get to call it after him, so, at least for this reason – it should be canceled, or at least change so far – that the name will be forgotten as well.
A small Story:
My wife’s Grandparents were very rich, and they had 3 children (My wife’s mother is one of them), so they opened a fund, named after each one of there children, to give scholarship to students in the “Technion” (similar to MIT)
So my wife’s mother goes every year to the ceremony, where she gets to be on stage, and shake the hands of those students who got the scholarship (named after her).
And this is OK because this is her money.
Now – correct me if I’m wrong, but this is not the case for Barak Obama and “Obama Care”
A few reasons why the a Republicans haven’t found a plan that they all can support.
1. The Republicans Contain within their caucus several ideological strains from the corporate boosters, libertarians, Main Streeters, etc.. they can barely agree on when and where to meet, much less come to an ideological position.
2. Legislating takes guts and hard work; not an attractive idea when simpler and fun stuff beckons.
3. Passing a free market type insurance system would cut out the influence/need for lobbyists and their bribes.
4. Selling such a plan to the public is difficult. As we are seeing with the tyrannical thuggery surrounding the Chinese Virus people want to be led, not informed.
The fix is to eliminate 90% of government intrusion into our lives. There would be a short period of difficulty but limited to those who think they should be taken care of by government. The 5% who, all along made things happen, will be the ones to put things right. The 95% will be hurt big time. If this is not done, 100% will be hurt beyond recovery.
The bottom line is I am responsible for myself and you are responsible for yourself. Neither of us are responsible for anybody else without freely choosing to take responsibility. Live and let live with free association and trade among the willing. If you choose not to associate and trade, it is your free choice because you will not be forced to associate and trade. THIS is the only sustainable organization of society.
But…but…but how about the poor, disabled, and those who are in their situation for no fault of their own? I didn’t force them into their condition. You didn’t force them either. Hence it must be our free choice to help them or not as we choose for reasons we freely choose. We cannot properly be forced by government to help them. However, if you choose to help them, help them with your own resources to the extent you can and I will not stop you. If you choose to help them with my resources against my free will, I will treat you as the thug you are.
Finally, clear evidence that Bill Barr is a fully operative swamp creature. Absolutely nothing is going to happen to the deep state miscreants in our lifetime. They should have been in prison doing lots of hard time years ago. Now it is only empty talk.
Things will change. Our civilization will collapse and billions of humans will become extinct. Heads they lose and tails we loose. It can be prevented but We the People no longer have the will and courage to do what is necessary.
I am surprised and gratified to be wrong about one thing. The charges against Flynn were dropped. This I did not expect. This event slightly tempers my skepticism about Barr’s and his DOJ’s ability to correct the obvious fatal flaws in the top levels of the DOJ, CIA, FBI et. al.
OK. One flaw is partially corrected but Flynn has not yet been made whole from the damage that was illegally done to him. The perpetrators should pay with everything they have and then some. Will that happen? Crickets?
Also, how about the thousands of flaws that still exist? I will believe it when I see them corrected and not before.
I have been a member of multiple role playing clubs, and I don’t care who knows. So if asked, I would say the following: Three systems, 5 genres. Fantasy in the granddaddy of them all, D&D. Hero system doing superheroes, space and Adventures club, which could be considered Indiana Jones type stuff. Hero system can do about any genre. (Fantasy, international spies like James Bond, western, etc.) Also did Toon sytem. Think Bugs Bunny. Indeed, I game mastered in all of them. I miss it. Bill is an amateur if he only was a member of one.
D&D (in college, we called it drunkards & dragons), V&V, Travellor, Star Trek (FASA), Twilight-2000, Call of Cthulhu.
I am such a nerd
Looked into Star Trek Fasa, V&V and Traveller. Not enough interest in my players to buy them, and creating characters in Traveller was worse than creation in the Hero system.
Yeah, when I used to do Facebook and I saw a fellow geek had a birthday, I’d always wish them a day where everything came up 19 on 3d6 + 1!
