A friend sent me an email containing this:
The University of Rhode Island recently announced plans to remove two murals depicting the events of World War II due to their lack of diversity. The decision was prompted after students complained that the mural was not compatible with the university’s values of inclusivity. According to the school’s Vice President of Student Affairs, “Some of our students have even shared with us they didn’t feel comfortable sitting in that space.”
As near as I can tell, this is not fake news … it reminds me when there was pushback on the design of the 9-11 firefighter memorial due to its lack of diversity.
Both these incidents focus on artifacts that reflect the actual state of things at the portrayed time in history. One could argue that, yes, the armed forces could have been more diverse in WWII, and the FDNY maybe should have been more diverse on Sep 11, 2001. But … that’s how it was, and these works of memorial art accurately reflect it.
So … do we take down murals?

This is ridiculous! Why don’t they add to the mural, maybe the Tuskegee airmen or something? 1 million black men and women served during WWII. Around 700 died during the conflict.
Is the real problem with the mural the “lack of diversity” or that it shows a depiction of war?
O. Dear. God. Ok, let’s just go to the endgame and cancel all history, since so much is not inclusive. Chinese history. No blacks. Black history… No Hispanics, etc. Get a grip snowflakes!
