Glenn Greenwald quits TheIntercept.com after editors pressured him to change his story about the Hunter Biden laptop scandal. Have allegations of foreign influence peddling — touching Joe Biden — been squelched by a virtual union of media outlets, Silicon Valley giants and the intelligence community? Is this just a disagreement over the role of editors in news craft, or evidence of a deeper problem with journalism?

It’s not so much a conscience as some sense of integrity and personal honor.
The attachments you have included go far beyond merely confirming the immediate issue at hand for Greenwald, but the far wider failure and disinformation paradigm of the entire MSM!
Bill, the word is pronounced “urinalist”.
Bill stated that he has respect for those with immovable values no matter what those values may be. I suspect that he is saying that he is in support of those that stand up for what they believe.
All people are conditioned but to varying degrees.
Conditioning is when people have been taught that their beliefs, and therefore their thoughts, are absolute truth.
The Red are the most lightly conditioned.
The Purple are moderately conditioned.
The Blue are strongly conditioned.
How much one is conditioned can be observed by how that person responds to information that conflicts with their beliefs.
The Red Conservatives have strong beliefs and stand up for them but are willing to engage other beliefs because one of the Conservative beliefs is that all persons have the right to their own beliefs and Conservatives are even willing to change their own belief if the other’s belief seems more reasonable.
Purple moderates have less strong beliefs and are more inclined to go along to get along so current popular ideals can sway them with not much consideration for truth.
Red Leftists (Liberals are fading) hold their beliefs so strongly that it controls their lives in all manners so they react violently against conflicting beliefs because, unconsciously, they can not accept that their belief can be wrong as their beliefs are their whole life and if their belief is wrong then their whole life has been wrong and they can not handle that.
Red Leftists are those with the immovable values and are not worthy of respect, pity for their plight maybe but not respect, as it is the immovable values of the Leftists that are responsible for much of the misery in today’s world.
I think the difference between some of your “red leftists” and the principled people Bill respects (and I could respect) are whether they actually live by their principles or not. Those on the left that also disparage their lefty politicians would be friendlier to us than some commentators on the Right that will not allow anyone to say anything negative toward “our” politicians, and use words like sellout and traitor when anyone questions the halo they have hung on their anointed.
If there were climate alarmists that have actually given up air travel, found a way to abandon all plastics and are advocating for reusable hemp bags with the warning that they will need to be washed and sanitized, though claiming that will be better than petrol-based plastics, and doing other things to their immediate, short term detriment but with a claimed long term benefit, those I could admire. The celebrities with houses 3 times the size of mine for half the people, on the tidal shore and empty half the year while the owners are flying the world around have no actual principles to admire, regardless of what they “believe”.
Not me. I can’t admire anyone who has chosen the path of suffering and death over flourishing and life.
“There is no witness so terrible and no accuser so powerful as conscience, which dwells within us.” Sophocles
Looks like someone’s conscience got the better of him and would start to make him feel guilty if he changed his story.
While there are no guarantees with the leftists (that being part of their schtick), when you have one “leader” as in Mr. Greenwald, perhaps he will now stiffen the spine of a few others. It is not like Lionell’s adage about Reality is some deep dark secret of the Free Masons or something.
I also presume he has been sufficiently responsible in his personal financial dealings that he is sort of financially independent (at least to a degree and for a while). That goes back to comments I have made here or elsewhere about political security following in part from financial independence.
The “journalists” should take heed of the fate of prominent lesbian lady athletes who were insufficiently woke for the lefter Trans movement and have been silenced.
As long as you keep up with the mob, the bulls won’t gore you, but slip, trip or fall behind (or get nudged by a fellow travelers as in the “you don’t have to outrun the bear” adage) and you’ll be the next hoist on the horns. Though in a sense, and majorly mixing metaphors, the horns will be on the petard that you made.
,,. there is never any shortage of petards.
there is never a shortage of metaphors, either.
Analogies, on the other hand: keeping track of them can become exhausting after six or eight or 12.
I think Iowahawk stated it best: Journalism is about covering important stories. With a pillow. Until they stop moving.
50 thumbs up for an Iowahawk reference! (however wordpress will only allow me 1, so 49 more to you in this reply!
I used to pay attention to Reporters. I have never given any credence to Journalists!
When your enemy is destroying itself, let them do it. They are eating their own.
They lived off his reputation and that was used to destroy him. In the long run, it will destroy the destroyers.
God knows that I hope it happens sooner than later. Our Republic cannot survive much more of this insanity from all of the progressive-leftist jackasses.
They are at war with reality. That is a war that cannot be won.
Our challenge is not to become collateral damage in that war. Unfortunately, that is likely to become very very difficult.
Wishing for a nonexistent benevolent bronze age sky warrior to intervein, isn’t going to help at all. At most, that will make you feel better and/or bitter as you suffer and die.
Nice try.
Is orange a shade of bronze? We have one currently flying around the country.
