Human-Monkey Hybrid Made in China by U.S. and Catholic University Scientists

Scientists from a Catholic university in Spain and the Salk Institute in the U.S. — working in China to avoid ‘legal issues’ — announce they successfully created a human-monkey hybrid then killed the embryo. They’re doing it, they say, to create an endless supply of transplantable organs for sick humans. When others raise ethical objections, or concerns about potential threats to the human genome, the scientists basically say, “Trust us.”

There was a movie – stories like Bill mentioned are very convincing – several years back called “The Island” I believe where human clones were grown for the sole purpose of providing organ transplants for their human (original human) counterparts.
These stories – are not most stories ethical or moral tales?
Scientists, unfortunately, are brainwashed to think that there is no such thing as a soul, and they needn’t worry about ethics. They drive on to new discoveries relentlessly, because they can. Because it is possible…

The topic is disturbing enough. What I find even more disturbing is that a Catholic University is involved.

“But we kill it at 2 weeks.” So what’s the point then? Do they actually believe that when their work is done and they leave that the Chinese won’t continue?

If you have to go to a country that is known for intellectual property theft, social credits and the like, that’s your first clue you are messing around in an area you have no business being in.

Then I would challenge the foundation of their faith. Christians with a solid foundation wouldn’t have an issue saying ‘no’. In this case, they said ‘yes’ and hopped on a plane.

What would God say? The people involved in this kind of ‘work’ have no belief, ethics or conscience. Their only objective is infamy and profit under the guise of making humanity better. I believe God wins in the end.

You guys help keep me sane. So… thanks for that, I guess.

This is so much like a Michael Crichton plot that I have to keep pausing and thinking it through.

Was not the creation of chimeras the work attributed to the gods in Greek mythology? Pan, Centaurs, all kinds of mixed human-animal creatures. The records of ancient Sumer also claim this his how the gods created mankind, mixing their essence (DNA) with that of an ape. The religious position on creating human-monkey hybrids is that the right to change life forms, particularly intelligent life forms, falls in the purview of the Almighty, not within the rights of Mankind. From a practical/ethical standpoint, we have only to read Frankenstein to understand the ethical perspectives (while Frankenstein did not merge two life forms, but instead reanimated dead ones, the analogy is not pure–but the point is what we create can come back to haunt us later). There is a trend in a movement called Transhumanism to merge humans with machines, to replace biological bodies with machine bodies, presumably on the idea that we can put our minds into machines and that machines can effect repairs to themselves and live indefinitely, unlike biological systems. We even have scientists saying that if we do ever meet aliens they will likely be machines because presumably they will have “evolved” beyond the need for biological bodies. Disregarding the fact that machines will NOT create immortality (even machines won’t survive the heat death of the universe) and the fact that there is no real proof that the soul can be put into a machine like mental engrams can (though they might create the appearance of immortality), brings us back to the religious question of the existence of the soul, which is the only way to any kind of immortality, because the soul exists in another dimension than this limited 3D reality and never dies. While I think this drive toward transhumanism and AI is inevitable in our world, we must pause and seriously consider the ethics of what we allow scientists to do in the name of achieving bigger, “better” things. If an intelligent human-monkey is created, does it not have rights? Are they inalienable? This is really no different than the same things we must consider when we talk about cloning people. Since clones are not the original, are they people? Of course they are. The question then becomes that of human-animal chimeras, which are in the same boat. Much of this may become possible through genetic engineering and nanotechnology in the future, but there are serious, serious ethical considerations, as well as moral, religious and legal ones.

I kind of like this having some non-political piece on the weekend. Any chance we could see more of this?
Now get back to work in the sugar caves and produce more content – your Citizen Producers have thus decreed!

there should be a price to pay. All involved should be blacklisted for life for any further work or support in their careers. Publish all their names for a start.

That bit about the heart proteins is really interesting. Now, imagine if, once they perfect the process, the protein structure will be able to be 3-D printed and no human or animal organ will be necessary at any point in the process…

Unethical. Thanks for sharing this. I was aware of the research being done to create organs from stem cells, but not aware of creating this type of hybrid for this purpose. I agree that just the fact that this research has to be conducted in a country like China should cause the scientist to stop what they are doing. Sad that they already are doing the experiments in China, because even if the original scientists halt their experiments, you can bet that China will continue them and it won’t end up being to “help” humanity.
