Anyone interested in flight or model rocketry should take a look at what this person is doing… A gimbal-stabilized model rocket that both ascends and descends under power and so lands similar to what Elon Musk has done with his Falcon 9 rocket.
He’s not quite there yet but getting close! Looks like some fantastic engineering and physics being modeled and made to work.

Appears the coding (if any) needs a few more seconds to stabilize before ground zero.
Yes…More height is the key but that only comes with less gimbaling on the way up…Every gimbal movement takes what would be otherwise vertical thrust and uses it for horizontal movement which costs altitude. I think he will get there though!

Yup..I was big time into model rocketry in high school…Can still smell the mix of burnt black powder and talcum powder from a spent rocket…the black powder smell from the freshly burnt engine and the talcum smell from the powder I’d spread on the plastic parachute to soften it so it would open more easily… Even did a model rocket design project in my senior year in University for my BaSc…good memories…Today many adults who did rocketry as kids have re-entered the hobby as adults..they are known as BARS (Born Again Rocketeers!) 🙂
