PandemicFlu.gov: The Lost Bush-Era Preparedness Site

Just watched the 2005 video of President George W. Bush addressing the National Institutes of Health about preparing for the threat of a global pandemic, which our Member, Ralph Kopera, posted here.

In it, President Bush mentions that the federal government has created a website to help us. The URL — PandemicFlu.gov — Bush says should be easy to remember.

Well, apparently the Centers for Disease Control didn’t remember, because even though the URL redirects to the CDC website, the lead paragraph makes it clear that the site has not been updated in a long time.

Makes me wonder how many other resources were created to address a momentary concern, then vanished into the memory hole of the federal bureaucracy. Reminds me of the final scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
