Covid-19 has been a world-wide Game Changer in unexpected ways, especially here in America. The USA has been THE dominating force, militarily, economically, and culturally, for the past sixty years. Everyone (as a rule) respected or feared us, because they knew that we could outshoot, outspend, or outlast them, in ANY contest. Everyone knew, even if they didn’t want to admit it, that the American Way was the Best Way.
In that time, roughly a generation, the Cultural Marxists have made greater and greater inroads into our entertainment, our education, and our popular culture. Founding Principles, like Self Determination and Liberty have been maligned and impugned. To want to make your own way, or to choose your own choices, is thought to be selfish, and evil. The whole idea of helping others, or doing what’s right VOLUNTARILY is dismissed. Charity only can come from the benevolent hand of the State.
Enter the Coronavirus, a pandemic that has been compared to the Spanish Flu outbreak from a century ago (2,000,000 American deaths), despite the fact that there haven’t even been anywhere near as many casualties as the 2010 Swine Flu outbreak (17,000). Yet, we’ve shut down a $22,000,000,000,000 economy…BY CHOICE! During the above mentioned pandemics, NOTHING was shut down! People kept going because they had to, and because THEY WANTED TO. Americans have ALWAYS had a work ethic. Soldiering on in the face of adversity is a classic American trait.
And yet, here we are, surrendering our God-given freedoms to a handful of unelected oligarchs and bureaucrats, because we’ve forgotten who we are. We’ve become timid. We’ve gotten soft and indolent, from years at the top of the heap. The Left sees this as an opportunity to go Full Communist. To complete Obama’s “Fundamental Transformation of America”. To create Amerika.
No, damn it, no. The damage that is being done to people’s lives is real. All of the Small Businesses, all of the Mom-and-Pop stores that have been shuttered because of this, are Real People! In all good conscience, we cannot allow this to continue! We must find a way to resume our lives, in spite of Covid-19, for the sake of Humanity! If America’s economy goes into a Full Depression, we take the World with us. Lives will be destroyed, and millions will die as a result.
God help us, we’ve got to choose between the relatively small number of lives saved by Social Distancing, and the greater number of lives saved by Active Commerce, and Herd Immunity. A virus only dies, when it has no host(s) to infect. We have to let it run its course, if we want it to go away. Pragmatism is a bitch, but right now, she’s the only game in town. Leftists love the line from “Star Trek” (‘The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one’)
The fact is, that more lives will be saved by a thriving economy, than those saved by Social Distancing. Goddamnit, we need to remember who we are! We’re Americans! We don’t cower in fear, we face the threat. We confront the Evil. We thrive in the face of adversity! My friends, don’t give up. Fight to your dying breaths. Let the Oligarchs kill me. I’ll die spitting in their eye.
