The NY Times finds a troubled young college dropout who claims YouTube turned him from Liberal to Alt-Right radical — that he was “brainwashed” by YouTube’s recommendation algorithm which led him ever deeper into the right-wing “rabbit hole.” The Times illustrates the story with a collage of commentators, including Bill Whittle, Stefan Molyneux, Steven Crowder, and Ben Shapiro, implying they’re culpable for the brainwashing. Bill Whittle reacts to this new, libelous, effort by a Progressive flagship to shut down freedom of speech.
YouTube demonetized popular conservative comic commentator Steven Crowder, in a crackdown on so-called “hate speech.” But are social media anti-cyberbullying efforts just a discriminatory Progressive speech code designed to make conservative voices shut up? Is YouTube obligated to pass on advertising dollars to any creator, no matter how abhorrent his ideas or hateful his speech?
Leftist virtue often comes from victimhood, so Progressive “truth” requires a story of oppression or abuse to give it credibility. Thus, the victimhood hoax has become more common than rational argument on the Left, since rationality lacks the emotional punch to break through the noise and hit the heart. The city of Los Angeles agrees to pay $645,000 to settle a lawsuit that claimed L.A. sanitation workers stole or destroyed property of homeless people during periodic clean-up efforts in the city’s sprawling Skid Row area. Do homeless people have a Constitutional right to squat on public property, stockpile pallets, refrigerators and other scavenged items, and generally drag down property values and tourist appeal?
Democrat Presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg has a plan to make the Supreme Court less political by increasing the number of judges — a plan to pack the court. Meanwhile, Matt Ford at NewRepublic.com, says Mayor Pete’s plan won’t fix the Supremes, so he recommends a random drawing for new court picks, with term limits. Will either of these plans depoliticize the highest court, or simply lock in Progressive dominance of the judicial branch?
A group dubbed ‘Super Happy Fun America’ plans to stage a ‘straight pride’ parade in late August in Boston to recognize the accomplishments of straight Americans. Is there room in America for celebration of achievements by heterosexuals, or is a straight pride parade inherently offensive, and discriminatory against homosexuals? Should Boston grant the parade permit?
If the Progressives who run Facebook, Twitter, Google and the rest get stripped of their power by a bipartisan movement to breakup these monopolies, can you imagine your future on a truly free internet? After the breakup of Ma Facebook, when hand-crafted algorithms no longer control what you see, what you don’t see, and which content creators can thrive or survive, how will that change politics in the United States?
